From the President of the Congress

It is with great pride and honor that the Société Française et Francophone de Chirurgie de l’Obésité invites you to Paris for the 14th World Congress of IFSO. French surgeons have been among the first bariatric surgeons in Europe and in the world and we have been waiting eagerly to organize this annual 2009 Meeting.

 It is not necessary to present you Paris, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Palais des Congrès, near from the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysées, will be a great opportunity to meet. And PARIS au MOIS d’AOUT is the best period to enjoy walking along the banks of the river Seine, climb the old streets of Montmartre or have a fast lunch “ à la terrasse d’un café”.

Now that surgery is recognized as the only efficient treatment against morbid obesity it is time to find new ways in this mini-invasive young discipline. Beside surgical expertise most progresses are due to medico-surgical “ bringing together” , challenging technical innovation and this fascinating metabolic surgery which means that bariatric surgery is now accreditated not only by surgeons but also by physicians and third-party payers.

We will offer you an exciting innovative congress, based on solid scientific presentations and keynote lectures on basic research and clinical problems, consensus meetings on recommendations, metabolic and revisional surgery and hope that you will share with us your attachment to fight against this worldly –spread Public Health Problem

Dear Colleagues,

 

It is my honor and pleasure to invite all of you to our next Congress in Paris France. It is time again to come together, visit with each other, learn from each other, share the advances in the field of obesity and metabolic surgery and just have fun.

 

Jean-Marc Chevallier and the French Scientific Committee are planning an excellent scientific program.( www.ifso2009.com) The Congress is scheduled this time in the last week of August 2009 thus allowing not only your spouses but children and families to take advantage of this opportunity to visit Paris and the adjourning interesting places in France and Europe. The great cities in Europe are four hours by train from each other and traveling by train is not only convenient but economical if planned in advance.

 

Obesity is a global epidemic and we are privileged to be placed in the forefront to address the problem. The numbers in the IFSO organization thus will continue to grow. Each and every member’s contribution will be sought and appreciated. We are an organization that started with five member countries and now has 42 member countries. The first Congress in Prag, Czech Republic in 1996 was attended by 268 and the thirteenth congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina this year had 1243 participants from forty three countries.

 

We plan to recognize all the Presidents of all member countries at the opening ceremony of the Paris Congress and hence so make sure your Society is represented. We have a great web site (www.ifso.com) that will be updated regularly so please refer to it often for updates.
